Childcare Quality Improvement

Strive for outstanding practice at your nursery with NDNA’s Quality Improvement support.

What about eQuality Counts?

All settings currently undertaking NDNA's previous eQuality Counts quality improvement scheme will be automatically transferred to our new accredited Quality Counts scheme from January 2018.

Benefits of achieving Quality Counts accreditation:

  • Improve the outcomes of children
  • Stand out from the competition
  • Improve teamwork and communication
  • Improve staff development, understanding, morale and engagement
  • Improved Inspector judgements.

Coming soon - February 2018

Quality Counts provides a framework for continuous improvement with a focus on taking the whole staff team through the learning journey; evaluating the quality of their provision for children.

Achieving NDNA’s Quality Counts accreditation will help you to critically evaluate practice against a set of quality improvement standards, and support all staff in your nursery to strive for outstanding practice.

New for 2018, based on sector feedback, we have streamlined the process of achieving our Quality Counts accreditation and refined the scheme. Its own website makes the process easier and faster for settings to use. You'll be able to start your journey on our new Quality Counts scheme from February 2018.

Quality Counts: The scheme

NDNA has worked with experts from the sector to develop the new scheme, based on the Quality Vision. Quality Counts will ensure you that you are providing the highest quality of care that you can, as well as identifying areas for improvement.

Our new scheme has three options:

  • Option 1 (available from mid 2018):
    • Quality Counts standards
    • An audit document to help make improvements
  • Option 2:
    • Quality Counts standards
    • Online access
    • And an online check to receive feedback on strengths and actions
  • Option 3:
    • Receive the full Quality  Counts accreditation plus
    • All aspects of the first two options
    • Mentor support throughout the 12-month process
    • External on-site assessment
    • A rigorous verification process.

The system
"NDNA's new Quality Counts system is very good. The audits, details and exemplifications were clear to use when making judgements and evaluating our practice."

New additions
"We liked the concept of the team and senior management team survey. The ability to upload limited pieces of evidence in the initial stages ensured a quicker start to the process in comparison to eQuality Counts. The mentor support in the initial stages was also very beneficial."

"The whole assessment was well managed, the per-assessment phone call was helpful and the quality of the assessor was positive. The feedback on the day of assessment was clear, it celebrated what was going well while being precise about our areas for development."

- Hilary Sharples - Ashbridge School

Quality Vision

Quality Counts is based on findings from academic research and encompasses the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) therefore it is relevant to all settings in the UK and overseas.
