Parents and teachers will be able to access help to protect children from radical views via a landmark new website offering advice on preventing extremism, Education Secretary Nicky Morgan announced today (19 January 2016) as part of a drive to protect children from the “spell of twisted ideologies”.

Educate Against Hate and further measures to protect children in and out of school announced today are designed to help those closest to children to keep them safe from extreme views.

NDNA welcomes any resources which help to support the safeguarding of children against extremism.

NDNA’s Chief Executive Purnima Tanuku OBE said: “Supporting and protecting children through education is the key to protecting them from extremist thinking and radicalisation.

“Education starts before children reach school and nurseries can instil values of respect, tolerance and caring for others from a very early age which we hope will stay with them for life.

“Nicky Morgan’s announcement of a package of support for teachers and parents is particularly important for the high proportion of nurseries which partner with schools to provide out of school clubs and holiday clubs, as they will be caring for older children.

“But all nursery practitioners should do the Prevent Duty training to fully understand their duty of care with regards to protecting our children from extremism.”

The NDNA factsheet about the Prevent Duty is free to members or a nominal fee for non-members.
