NDNA response to the recent APPG report
Following a recent APPG Report recommending that the 30 hours free childcare is extended to all UK children, Stella Ziolkowski, NDNA’s Director of Quality and Workforce Development, said: “Whilst we recognise the benefits of extended hours specifically for children identified in this report, Government must address funding issues before this is considered, to ensure the sector is not flattened by this initiative.
“The government needs to address the failures of the existing 30 hours extended childcare offer, such as insufficient funding and staff shortages. These issues must be addressed before an extension can even be discussed.
“Nurseries up and down the country are already struggling to deliver 30 hours childcare due to a lack of funding provided. The current pressures faced by nurseries under the scheme are already resulting in closures. We have case study evidence of setting closures and those who are at risk of closure as a result of the catastrophic funding shortfall up and down the country.
“An extension will only amplify a sector that is already at breaking point.”
