Letter to the Chancellor about funding crisis

NDNA’s Chief Executive Purnima Tanuku OBE has written to the Chancellor ahead of the September spending review which was announced last week.

In her letter, she has urged the Chancellor Sajid Javid to address the funding crisis in early years. As spending on schools has already been flagged up as a priority area, she has also written to the Education Secretary Gavin Williamson and Kemi Badenoch, the minister with responsibility for early years, to highlight the need to also look at funding for early years.

Next month, Mr Javid will carry out a one year spending review which will set out the Government’s spending priorities for 2019/20.

Purnima has also urged the Chancellor and ministers to exempt English nurseries from paying business rates, as they are in Scotland and Wales, which will help their business sustainability in the face of funding shortfalls.
