Download our template and ask your MP to support childcare

This is a crucial period for nurseries in England as the Government is starting to think about its spending plans for the next four years.

Smiling childWe want early years and childcare to get the attention and funding needed to be able to deliver the high quality service everyone wants to give our children.

In recent years we have seen the funding for early years providers stagnate and as costs rise (minimum wage, living wage, pension requirements and general inflation) this means a real term cuts in the funding you receive to deliver childcare promises made by the Government. You can download our full breakdown of funding rates received by councils here.

This year alone there has been an almost 5% increase to NLW and NMW and an increase from 2% to 3% employer contributions for workplace pensions. The Government has not factored these increased outgoings into hourly rates for funded childcare hours.

NDNA has been fighting for Government to recognise this impact in their Budget announcements through our annual survey.
The rates at which nurseries are closing their doors and in our workforce surveys.  We have also helped get evidence from nurseries in front of MPs who are conducting an inquiry into the financial sustainability of the sector  – their report is due out next month.

Below is a template that you can use to contact your local MP to encourage them to speak up for nurseries like yours. The template includes suggestions of possible issues you may like to raise which could help you create your own requests. If there are points that aren't covered that you want to add in or you want to write your own message to your MP, please do!

Spaces have been highlighted in the template below for you to add your own local information and highlight particular examples you might have faced in your area. If you’re unsure of Find out who your MP is and how to contact them, using your nursery’s postcode here.
