Purnima’s Christmas message: you have been a pillar of strength

NDNA’s CEO Purnima Tanuku OBE has filmed a special Christmas message to the sector and for the sector.

This year more than any other year, the heartfelt message is: thank you for doing so much to support your children and families at such a very difficult time.

Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, the early years sector has done a fantastic job dealing with so many challenges on top of the year on year difficulties of trying to remain sustainable when government funding for childcare places leaves them with a shortfall.

But they have also had to grapple with:
  • Either closing for the lockdown or looking after only key workers children and vulnerable children
  • Supporting families and children with their development and learning at home
  • Dealing with positive cases of Covid
  • Trying to juggle staff rotas as employees become sick or are forced to self-isolate
  • Dealing with low attendance, low parental income and being unable to charge fees as normal if bubbles are closed
  • Working out the complex furlough scheme rules
  • Putting in place all the measures that make their nursery a safer place.
In her Christmas message video, Purnima says: “What a challenging year it’s been for all of us. I think it’s time to take a moment to recognise and really appreciate what a fantastic job the early years sector has done.

“We were always proud to be part of the early years sector who have done unprecedented work to support families and children at a very difficult time.
