Welsh Government Cabinet Appointments announced
Jeremy Miles MS has been appointed Minister for Education and the Welsh Language, while Julie Morgan MS is re-appointed as Deputy Minister for Social Services.
Purnima Tanuku OBE, Chief Executive of NDNA Cymru, said: “We would like to welcome the new Education Minister to his role and to see Julie Morgan continue in her ministerial post as well. I have written to both offering our congratulations. We look forward to working with both in the crucial roles they now hold.
“This is a vital time for children and their education as we look towards recovery plans from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Childcare and early years settings have worked throughout the pandemic to support children and families but we know lockdowns have reduced their interactions with their wider families and friends their own age.
“We’re looking forward to working with Ministers within the Welsh Government on educational recovery plans, supporting the non-maintained sector early education with the delivery of the in the new Curriculum for Wales and the successful delivery of the Childcare Offer.
“It’s been a tough time for children, families and early years settings. We will continue to press for the practical and financial support providers need to be able to deliver the high quality care and early learning opportunities that children need.”
NDNA Cymru has written to both the Education and Welsh Language Minister as well as the Deputy Minister for Social Services, who has a responsibility for childcare, to congratulate them on their appointments.
