International success for NDNA at Dubai event

On 9 December 2015 National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) held its third international event in Dubai:  ‘Quality Matters for All’.

The afternoon event held at Radisson Blu Hotel in Dubai, attracted over 30 nursery owners, managers and practitioners.

NDNA Chief Executive Purnima Tanuku spoke about the methods being used to improve outcomes in children, including NDNA’s popular MathsLiteracy and SEND Champions programmes. She also spoke about the upcoming Oxford Summer School (more to be announced in January 2016).

Two guest speakers included Tracy Warren, Education Director at The Developing Child Centre in Dubai. Tracy presented the importance of identifying missing milestones in children. NDNA Policy Committee Member and Managing Director at the Old Station Nursery in England, Sarah Steel, spoke about peer support.

Purnima presented Blossoms Nursery representatives Tamara Stubbs and Zahra Hamirani, with their e-Quality Counts award, after successfully completing NDNA’s flagship certification scheme in October 2015.

Nurseries that achieve e-Quality Counts demonstrate exemplary childcare above and beyond the requirements of regulators such as MOSA in the UAE and Ofsted in England. Many nurseries in Dubai follow the English Early Years Foundation Stage and are increasingly benchmarking their standards against NDNA’s e-Quality Counts programme.

Whilst in Dubai, Purnima also visited a selection of local childcare settings including; Paddington’s Nursery, Woodbury Nursery, Little Gems International and Beehive Nursery.

Laura Barton, Manager at Beehive Nursery commented: "The recent event held in Dubai was wonderful with some really motivational speakers. It really helped to break down barriers between practitioners and encouraged us to share best practice. It helped us all to realise we all share the same vision to provide good quality childcare and education.”

Katie Hamdi, Manager of Woodbury Nursery said of the event: “The event yesterday was very informative and we thoroughly enjoyed attending.”
