I work for a local authority

As a local authority, you support a number of early years settings in your area.

You’re responsible for providing them with the latest advice, training and guidance, so they have everything they need to offer high quality early education, overcome two year old capacity challenges and become successful businesses.

You also have your own targets to meet and statutory guidance responsibilities, while dealing with funding cuts and the pressure to keep up with the changing world of childcare.

Plus you’re trying to do more with fewer people.

We’ll give you everything your childcare providers need to know

We work on a daily basis with over 5,000 early years providers including nursery practitioners, child minders, pre-school practitioners and children's centre practitioners across the UK, so we understand all the varied challenges faced by the early years sector. They rely on us to give them high quality advice, training and support, so the children in their care get the best possible start in life.

When you become a member of NDNA, as a Local Authority, we’ll give you advice on all aspects of childcare, access to a wide range of online and face to face training, and consultancy on specific issues your early years settings are facing.

We’re already helping a number of local authorities to overcome their challenges

Working with settings to ensure sustainability and getting more two year olds into childcare, are challenges facing many local authorities. In Gloucestershire, we’re training settings on business modelling and cost reduction to help them to take on more two year olds while remaining strong and sustainable.

We’re here to give you expert advice, training and consultancy

Whether you need advice on starting a nursery, safeguarding, behavioural challenges or running a successful nursery business, we can give you all the training and support you need – from factsheets to developing bespoke training that will address specific problems. We’ll give you the tools you need to ensure your childcare settings become high quality, strong and sustainable. In Birmingham, we are delivering a 15 month programme of 64 training events and 32 focus group sessions for early years settings, including childminders and out of school clubs, on supporting children’s emotional and social behaviour effectively.

Impact assessment

You'll get more than just a training course...

When local authorities ask us to deliver training, those childcare settings are learning essential new skills, but it's vital that these are taken on board and embedded within the setting, so they can start making a positive impact straight away.

...you'll take away an action plan

During the training course, the trainer will work with you to create a plan of action, specific to the needs of each setting. These are collected at the end of the course and uploaded electronically at NDNA. Our trainers will then follow up, either by phone or by visiting the settings, to check on progress - if settings need any help putting things into practice, we'll give our advice there and then.

Case study: Birmingham local authority

Birmingham Council have asked NDNA to deliver a number of workshops on Promoting Positive Behaviour. Following training, all action plans were loaded onto Birmingham's electronic system, which allows attendees and other childcare settings in the area to see what differences are being made to improve behaviour. Publication of the month

your essential pocket guide to...Brave Boys

Are we meeting the different ways in which boys learn, as readily as we meet the girls? As practitioners working with boys, you'll recognise those that fidget, those who don't appear to listen or pay attention and those that are full of 'boy energy'. This amazing energy is something you may feel you need to contain! But containing it may be part of the problem rather than the solution...
